9 Things to Know About Alexander Wang’s Spring 2017 Show

Alexander Wang presented his Spring 2017 collection at New York Fashion Week on Saturday. Not only did he show off shirting-inspired looks and a series of beaded minidresses, he also revealed an Adidas collab in the process. But more on that in Nicole Phelps’s review—for now, get the abridged version of events here.

1. Madonna, ZoĆ« Kravitz, CL, Kylie Jenner, and Tyga were among the celebrities perched in Wang’s front row.

2. The show began with flashing lights and the sound of revving engines, the first model emerging in a cropped button-down and boxer shorts.

3. From there, Wang brought a variety of shirting-inspired looks—including a triangle bra made from button-down fabric—before moving in a more streetwise section.

4. How streetwise, you ask? Well, if the neon bike caps didn’t get the memo, then maybe the rose prints or flame prints did: This is a collection for a girl on the go, from party to party that is.

5. All the members of Wang’s squad walked the runway, including Lexi Boling, Binx Walton, Anna Ewers, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Issa Lish, and Molly Bair.

6. Katie Moore, who opened last season’s Alexander Wang show with a flame red bob, dyed her hair bleach blonde today to better fit in with the bottle blondes who opened the show.

7. The show ended—or so we thought—with a series of glitzy beaded dresses.

8. After the last model walked, a security camera film played to reveal Wang’s upcoming Adidas collaboration. Models took their finale walks in looks that featured upside-down Adidas logos.

With inspiration from English artist Barbara Hepworth and Japanese textile designer Reiko Sudo, Belle is well on her way to revolutionizing the fashion industry, one sustainable piece at a time.  Read more about Belle’s experience below!  What was your inspiration behind your collection for the EcoChic Design competition?  I was inspired to create a collection by “weaving” in a sustainable way. Each design was developed through experimenting on what comes out of the loom after reweaving various types of waste fabric I found in a bag factory, including nylon bag linings, leather and luxurious silk warp. I tried to make sustainable fashion appealing by mixing in contemporary Asian aesthetic...
